Boys and Girls Club

The Junior League of Florence has chosen the Boys and Girls Club as its signature project this year. JLF is hosting monthly birthday parties for the youth, and working to develop other programming to help emphasize our focus area of healthy children and healthy families. We hope to include promoting nutritious meals and snacks through the Kids in the Kitchen initiative, as well as provide more opportunities for physical activity to encourage active lifestyles.

This year, League members are excited to share their special talents with the children from the Boys and Girls Club of Florence. Provisional member Niki Chavis, instructed a hip hop dance class that really got the club members up and moving. There are plans to introduce new experiences in the spring, with members will be giving lessons on things such as tennis, golf, dance, and cooking.

Treats for Kids

On Wednesday, October 24th, The Junior League of Florence will sponsor a table at the WBTW "Treats for Kids." This event was a way for handicapped and disadvantaged children to trick-or-treat in a barrier free environment. League members donated treats, toys, and table decorations while other members volunteered to pass out the treats and toys to the children. With between 800 and 1200 children in attendance, our volunteers left that day with an overwhelming feeling of joy and gratification that is unsurpassed.
