Junior League of Florence Boosts Boys and Girls Club 'Be Healthy' Program
The Boys and Girls Club of the Pee Dee The Boys and Girls Club of the Pee Dee, which has served the youth of the Pee Dee area for more than 45 years, is the JLF signature project. The purpose of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area is to promote the social, educational, health, leadership, and character development of boys and girls during critical periods of their growth. In every community, boys and girls are left to find their own recreation and companionship in the streets. An increasing number of children are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to know that someone cares about them. The Club's goal is to provide these children the guidance they need. To do this, the Club hosts programs and services that promote and enhance the development of boys and girls ages 6-18 by instilling a sense of competence, usefulness, belonging and influence. Currently, they have approximately 2,190 members who participate in the programs. The Club serves approximately 4000 youth throughout the year.Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area is grateful to the many individual and corporate sponsors for helping to maintain the programs at seven sites around the Pee Dee. As a non-profit organization, they depend on funding from local United Ways, individual and corporate donations, and federal, state and local grants. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Pee Dee Area is proud of the staff and volunteers. Each Club relies on a core staff of full-time youth development professionals, assisted by trained part-time staff and volunteers, to provide guidance and supervision, and to serve as role models and mentors. The Junior League is a proud and active sponsor of the Florence chapter of the Boys and Girls Club. Mr. Neil Zimmerman, Executive Director, said "The Junior League has been a wonderful supporter of the children at the Florence Boys & Girls Club for a number of years. The Junior League has made, and continues to make, an impact in the lives of hundreds of children through their partnership with our Club." |
